Clients Hire You for Your Knowledge

Many agents are confused about the difference between “information” and “knowledge.”  “Information” is something you can get from a Google search or ChatGpt. “Knowledge” is the application of information and experience to solve problems.

For example, when an out-of-area appraiser brings in a very low appraisal, ChatGPT can’t figure out the nuances of pricing and local neighborhood knowledge that is needed to figure out the best way to address this issue. Do you send the correct comps to the appraiser, get a second appraiser, or try to figure out a workaround with the buyer and the seller?

Or how about when the roof springs a major leak the day before closing. How do you negotiate your way through that mess?

Always keep in mind this timeless quote: “Information is free. Knowledge is priceless.”

The bottom line is that clients hire you for your knowledge, not for the information they can get online.
